What is the cost of living in China?

The cost of living varies throughout China. In a first tier city like Shanghai the cost of apartments can range from 2000 yuan upwards. In smaller cities you can expect to get a lot more or your money. In terms of food, this is relatively inexpensive as is transport with most cities having more than adequate public transport. Generally if you were to budget 100 yuan a day you would be able to eat good food and have some left over for drinks and general expenses

Am I provided with housing?

Housing is not provided through the contract, but a housing allowance is offered to teachers at certain schools. The allowance can range from 450 yuan to 800 yuan. Either way accommodation can be organized through the schools welfare officer

Can I apply for my visa before I have secured a teaching placement?

No, the school will need to act as sponsor for your visa and therefore you will need to have secured a teaching placement prior to getting your visa.

Is the China visa process complicated?

Although it isn¡¯t complicated you will need to plane ahead but yopu will be guided through the process by the schools welfare officer.

How much vacation/holiday time will I have?

At current we offer up to 22 days paid holiday with 5 days unpaid. (Chinese state holidays are deducted from this)

I can come to China immediately. How soon can I arrive?

You can arrive as soon as you have secured a teaching place with one of our schools and when your visa is secured.

How is the food? Will I like it?

Depending on where you choose to go in China the food can vary. In the big cities you will be able to find every type of cuisine in the world from Chinese to junk food to top end French Italian cuisine. In smaller cities you may not be able to find such a range of international cuisine but plenty of varied Chinese food awaits you.

What is the tax rate in China?

Taxes vary from province to province in China and usually reflect your salary. A higher salary equates to a higher tax rate. Generally the tax rate varies between 5% and 10%.

Do I have to teach in the city? Where are most of your client schools located?

We have over 25 schools throughout China in cities such as Shanghai, to smaller cities like Fenghua or Wuxi. Almost all schools are located in larger metropolitan areas.

Is my flight to China paid for or at my own expense?

You will need to supply your own ticket to get to China but depending on your proposed contract your flight will be reimbursed up to a value of 4200 yuan. This is paid in two installments half after six months and the other half upon successful completion of the contract.

How much are roundtrip flights to China?

Round trip flights vary in price depending on distance, time of year and how close to the date of travel you book. Generally, flights can be anywhere between US$600 and US$1,200.
